Get ready to run your buns…virtually!
Because of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we are unable to hold the Bun Run 5k through beautiful El Reno. However, we are still going to have the race, virtually!
How does a virtual race work?
You will still register for the race, but instead of meeting at a designated time and place to run, you will complete the run on your own schedule. Once you finish the race, submit your time to EnMotive and download your finisher’s certificate. Best of all, you will still receive your race packet, including the Official 2020 Bun Run Shirt and finisher’s medal. You can register and race as many times as you want. Once the race closes on August 31st, you can see your ranking on the Leader Board.
Why didn’t we just cancel the race?
Two reasons: First, you. We recognize that so many events are cancelled this Spring and Summer, and the disappointment of those cancellations adds up quickly. We wanted to provide you with an opportunity to participate in the race, get some focused exercise, support a great cause, and still get your t-shirt and finisher’s medal.
Second, our community. The Bun Run is the primary fundraiser for the Mission Team of Wesley United Methodist Church in El Reno. Our team depends on the funds from the Run to support numerous ministries, including ALLOT Initiative (Free classroom supplies for El Reno Teachers), Blessing Boxes (nine boxes through El Reno providing food for those in need), Rio Bravo (building houses for impoverished families in Rio Bravo, Mexico), home repairs for local residents, emergency response assistance, blanket drive and give-a-way, and providing items for the ERPS Care Closet. Without the Bun Run, our ability to serve our community will be substantially limited. Your participation in the Bun Run allows us to continue our work in serving our community.
We look forward to running with you virtually in 2020 and for gathering together for the 2021 Bun Run!
